Sandford-on-Thames Parish Council
Highlights from recent meetings

King's Arms Footbridge to Lock: Nothing is certain in this life, so it now seems that the Environment Agency is not willing to proceed at this time with repairs to the footbridge. This is a big disappointment, and the Council is having to re-open negotiations to prevent the closure of this important link for reasons of safety.

Community Tax 2000-01: For this financial year the Parish Council has reduced it's Precept by half to £9,000 in light of the surplus built up over recent years, and to mark the Millennium.

Concessionary Fares Scheme
Concessionary fares are available for qualified persons resident in Sandford by the issue of Bus Tokens, financed jointly by SODC and the Parish Council. The year 2000 value of the Token issue is £25, as last year.
Gina Ashburner will issue Tokens this year at 73 Henley Road between the hours of 10 am & 2.0 pm on Friday 30th June. If you are really unable to attend at this time, contact Gina on 771176.
Next year Concessionary Fares will be harmonised across the country by the adoption of a Bus-pass scheme, and we offer our thanks to Gina for all she has done in the past administering this service.

Neighbourhood Watch: Church Road Neighbourhood Watch now has a new co-ordinator for the stretch from Henley Road to River View.
Mr Alan Graham at number 45 has kindly agreed to take on this task. His telephone no. is 777293, please contact him if you see anything suspicious going on in the area.
If you have been thinking of starting up a new Neighbourhood Watch in your part of the village, please do it to-day - don't delay.

Full Council Minutes are published and posted on the notice boards.

Community Refuse Vehicle: A reminder that the dates and times for the Community Refuse Vehicle being stationed at the Village Hall car park during the next few months are as follows:
Tuesday 9 May 08.00 - 10.45     Saturday 27 May 10.10 - 12.00
Tuesday 6 June08.00 - 10.45 Tuesday 1 August08.00 - 10.45
NB: The operator will not remove rubbish left on the ground, so please bin it.

Dog Fouling: It is an offence to allow dogs to foul footpaths and open areas, but there is ample evidence that it is still prevalent within this village, causing distress to walkers and to those responsible for mowing open grass areas.
Be a good citizen and scoop the poop.

Sandford on Thames Womens Institute

The Annual General Meeting was held in March, with Ruth Webb coming along from the county Federation to guide us through the procedures.
Our founding President, Pat Tuson stood down from that office, so a new President had to be elected, and after some discussion Jan Mc Callum agreed to take it on for this year. Angela Howard is continuing as Secretary, and the rest of the Committee was elected as before.

The Boundary Group meeting, held at Garsington, was attended by six Sandford members. Entertainment was provided by "The Giffords", led by the President of Crowmarsh Gifford WI with her son as the leading male singer, and included Songs from the Shows, comedy turns, monologues, and a sing-along. A buffet supper concluded a very enjoyable evening.

The April meeting turned out to be more active than usual. Joan Creese brought along her music, and we spent an hour doing "Easy Exercises, at first sitting down, and then moving around the hall, after which we were all ready for a cuppa and biscuits. Maybe we can enjoy another evening like this sometime!
