Harvey

The Harry Blackler Admiration Society put on an excellent production of Harvey in the Village Hall on February 21st. Those who attended experienced a real treat. The performers gave a truly professional performance and our thanks go to them for coming. Thanks also to Marjorie Harris who arranged an excellent evening.

Post Office

It is with great reluctance that Mr & Mrs Absolom announce the closure of the Village Post Office and Stores. It now means villagers having to go out of the village to get their Post Office requirements. Most people will be probably encouraged to go to the more obvious Post Offices in Littlemore and Rose Hill, however, I would like to remind them of a more personal service they could obtain just as close. By going just down the road to Nuneham Courtenay there is an excellent Post Office Stores run by Mr N.R. Tredwell and his wife. Telephone Nuneham Courtenay 201. The Post Office is open Mon Fri 9.00 am - 5.30 pm and on a Saturday 9.00 am - 12.30 pm. The shop is open Mon - Sat 7.00 am - 6.30 pm and on Sundays from 9.00 am - 6.30 pm. Apart from the shop being crammed with provisions there is also an off licence with the usual selection of wines and spirits.

Village Hall

The Annual General Meeting of the Village Hall Committee takes place on Monday, March 16th at 8.pm in the Village Hall. All villagers are welcome to attend.

Village Directory

After the forthcoming elections in May I propose to publish a new Village Directory. If you have anything you wish to have included with regard to your Club/Association, please let me know in April.

Parish Council

Notes from the Parish Council Meeting on 16th February 1987.

particular matters which were discussed on February 16th included a report that the problem with the water collecting under the bridge over the underpass has been satisfactorily resolved. It was necessary for a seal on the road itself to be repaired and it is hoped that there will be no further trouble. The precept for the rates had been agreed at the previous meeting but South Oxfordshire district Council provided for additional money to be raised on the rates (about £500.00) to cover the costs of the local elections in May. Voting then will not only be for parish Councillors

[ Parish Council notes - continued from page 1 ]

but for District Councillors as well.

A letter was received from Mr & Mrs Absolom who own the shop and Post Office in the village. They will be closing the shop and Post Office on April 27th. A great service has been given to the village by Mr & Mrs Absolom and the Parish Council expressed their gratitude to them.

If anyone in the village would like to run the Post Office from his or her home and this could be on a very part-time basis then enquiries are to be directed to the Head Postmaster at St. Aldates, Oxford, or discussed with the Clerk to the Parish Council, Mrs Heery on Oxford 771176. Applications must be made immediately.

There is to be a Litter Blitz Weekend on Saturday 4th ending Sunday 5th April. Free bags in which to collect the litter are available from Mrs Heery and the filled bags will be removed by the District Council. Although the Parish Council did not agree on a particular time to collect litter, it is hoped anyone who would like to participate will collect bags and make this contribution to the tidiness of the village.

Letters were received about the distribution of the E.E.C. butter. There is to be a meeting to decide on how the distribution will take place and full details will be given thereafter.

The next meeting is the Annual Parish Meeting which will be at 8.00 pm in the Village Hall on Monday 23rd March. The Annual Meeting reviews the matters dealt with by the Parish Council during the previous year and the finances of the Parish Council during the past year are also considered. Mrs King the District Councillor will give her support and a report and it is hoped that our County Councillor also will be present. There is an opportunity for the people in the village to raise matters with or Councillors and to give suggestions as to plans for the forthcoming year. The monthly Parish Council meeting will commence at 7.30 pm on 23rd March in the hope that the business will be concluded by 8.00 pm. Both the Parish Council meeting and the Annual General Meeting are open to everyone.

Can I remind you again that elections are in May. Please contact Mrs Heery to find out when you should collect nomination papers and what procedure you have to follow to complete them.

Sandford and Littlemore Beat

Only a short article this month. Just enough to inform you that I will be stamping some more bikes this month at my Surgeries at the Community Centre. Giles Road, Littlemore. The times are at the end of this article. Last month I spent three days at Lawn Upton Middle School, taking part in their Crime Week. I was accompanied by PC Khan and PC Franklin from the Community Liaison Dept at Oxford. During the three days we covered many aspects of Police work involving the children as much as possible. I would personally like to congratulate the parents of the very many children who took part that week and on their childrens' manners and behaviour. It was excellent. Thank you and well done. If you want help or advise on any problem which might involve the police, please contact me on Oxford 249881 Ext 2514 and leave a message. Thankyou Until next month, take care.
