PARISH COUNCIL

The Parish Council Meeting was held on June 16th. Mrs Hesketh of the Thames Society was present.

Mrs Hesketh came to discuss the plans for the Thames Footpath and answer any questions on the subject. The Thames Path is a long distance footpath running from the source of the Thames in Gloucestershire, right through to Richmond in Greater London, this will include all the well known and beautiful places along it's banks. Part of it will be through Sandford. The majority of the footpath which passes through Sandford is in good condition and intact and will need very little work done on it.

Permission has been granted to knock down 'Cornerways' in Church Road and replace it with two houses. It is not yet known when this work is likely to commence.

At a previous Council meeting the Clerk to the Council was asked to write to Magdalen College on behalf of a resident of Rock Farm Lane to enquire why the college wished to purchase part of some of the gardens in the lane, In their reply Magdalen College stated they were looking into the possibilities of developing the area for housing. Magdalen College assured the Parish Council they would be kept informed.

Mr Hutchinson said that by the end of the month the wharf site would be completely levelled. The Council asked the Clerk to get estimates for seeding the area. It was decided to remove the rubble from outside one of the houses at Riverview, at the Parish Councils expense if it not removed by the 20th June and to reclaim the money from the tenant.

At the previous meeting concern was shown that contractors lorries may wish to use Brick Kiln Lane and the perimeter road around the sewage works for the Greater Blackbird Leys development. The Council were assured that should access be required to the Leys, a proper contract road will be built.

The Council voted unanimously to ask for an enforcement order on the Country Club to prevent them using Church Road as an access for caravans and that the order remains until the Henley Road entrance has been finished. It was stated that consent for planning permission for alterations to the Country Club on the proviso that the Henley Road entrance was completed first. There 18 at present a dispute between the owners and the Council on whose responsibility it is to pay for the moving of the light pole at the entrance to the Country Club. The Club claim that as the light belongs to the Council and the Parish Council claim that as the Country Club asked for planning permission it is their responsibility to complete all alterations.

The Council has decided to write to all residents of Riverview, pointing out that wattle fencing or fencing of any wood is not acceptable and planning permission was given for 3ft brick walls to be built.

New signs will be erected at the entrance to the recreation ground banning dogs from the area.

Mrs Agulnik congratulated the Village hall Committee on a successful carnival and said how she along with numerous other people had enjoyed the afternoon. The next meeting will be on August 11th.

Boundary Commission

I informed you in a previous edition of the Link that we had lost another round of our battle to stay in S.O.D.C. This information was given to me, but it now appears I was misinformed. No decision will be made for at least six months.

Village Fate

One of our most successful fetes was held on June 7th when over six hundred pounds was raised. The Village Hall Committee would like to thank everyone who attended and helped in any way. All efforts were very much appreciated.

Mrs Rolston from The Fox received the prize as Team Captain on winning the 'Knock- Out' competition. There was a bottle of bubbly for each of the winning team. The American Airforce supplied one of their monster wagons, which was very popular with the children, especially when they gave rides.

Fishing

The Parish Council have got the fishing rights for three rods for waters to be fished In the lock cut. At present they are not quite sure whether to let the fishing to villagers on a first come first served basis daily or on a £5 per season basis for three rods. If you are interested, please contact Mrs Heery on Oxford 771176. The season will not start until October due to local Thames byelaws.

Youth Club

There will be no more Youth Club until September 24th.

Directory

An error was made in the directory published with last month's Link.
Please amend your directory:-

1. County Councillor Mr Farrall correct telephone number Watlington 2327
2. District Councillor Mrs Nikki King, The Vineyard, Clifton Hampden, Nr Abingdon, Oxon. Telephone number Clifton Hampden 7762

Changing Rooms

It is a great shame that certain Parish Councillors raise alarm and despondency without knowing the correct facts.

The Parish Council saw the plans for the new changing rooms on Magdalen College Sports Field and should have known what the construction consisted Of. Yet In the early stages of construction when only a wooden shell had been erected, as I understand made of a fire retardant treated board, the person concerned was pointing out what a fire hazard this would be. The fact is the wooden shell has a breeze block construction on top, with a nice looking brick on top of that.

Pollution

Earlier this month over one hundred fish were found poisoned in the Thames at Sandford due to a leak into the river from the sewerage works.

Puzzles

If there is anyone who feels they would like to compile a puzzle or assist in the editing of the Link, I would be most grateful to hear from them.
