Issue no 43.August 1985

*****   GYPSIES   *****

Once again Sandford has to endure another influx of gypsies with all their filth and rubbish, again we are having them race through the village at break-neck speeds, drive at night with only half their lights working and what help do we as tax payers and rate payers get from the authorities I propose as a private citizen to write to all departments concerned and if I do get replies I will put them in the next link.

My letters will go to the following departments firstly the Department of Transport, to Mrs Linda Chalker, I will ask the following questions:-

1. Why are these people allowed to block a site line with their lorries and why don't M.O.T. examiners look more closely at their vehicles.

Secondly I shall write to the County Council to ask why as agents for the M.O.T. they are not taking action against litter and rubbish deposited in that area, and what action they propose to take against these itinerants.

Thirdly S.O.D.C. to ask why their agent Mr Gary Gilbert allows them full use of facilities at Ten Acre Site, also I will wish to know why there is a second key to the barrier when they have denied the existence of a second key. The reason I know there is one or that he leaves his key with one of the Ten Acre residents is because on leaving Kiln Park we saw the barrier go up and a lorry go in and a few minutes later I nearly had an accident with Gerry Gilbert in Littlemore.

Fourthly Miss Burra of the Parish Council as to why her council does not push for some sort of barrier around the open space at the top of the village.

I appreciate the Parish Council have written a letter and received a very 'wet' excuse but I want to know why on our behalf they have not fought and argued the point with S.O.D.C.
Finally, the police. The other afternoon they were quick enough stopping a 17 year old youth when pushing an old moped with a seized engine along the cycle track of the Marston Link Road and reporting him for having no MOT. Yet when it comes to gypsies they do not have enough guts to Stop them. It is the same old story the gypsies are above the Law.

The teenager on Kiln Park with a red trials type motor bike who did a 'wheelie' the wrong way down Main Avenue, with total lack of consideration for the toddlers playing outside their front gates, receives the Wally of the month title.

*****   GYPSIES   *****

Since we first started to type the Link most of the gypsies have moved on. However, the S.O.D.C. will have to clear their rubbish which the rate payer will have to pay for. These people contribute nothing to society but society has to pay dearly for them to continue their way of life.
Our parish council must now take up the fight and get something done about this corner, before they return.
