| Issue no 41. | June 1985 |
The Annual General Meeting of the Parish Council was held on 20th May and five members of the public attended. Miss 8urra was re-elected Chairman and Mrs Agulnik Vice-chairman of the council.
The Council has received a letter from South Oxfordshire District Council,
Planning Department enquiring whether we would be interested in acquiring
the field behind Rock Farm and the houses East of Henley Road for
recreational purposes.
In the Oxford Fringe Plan it was suggested that
a small number of houses might eventually be built on what is now the
farmyard site, but that the field should not be built up and should be
available for recreation.
These plans are now being looked at more closely
and the Parish Council agreed that we would be interested in owning those
four acres. Because of rumours and fears which have been going round
the village, I would like to make several points clear:-
1. The plans are still at a very early stage.
2. Our ownership of that field would make NO difference to our tenancy
of the present recreation ground. We have signed an agreement with
Magdalen College for twenty years on this land, and this cannot be
changed without our consent.
3. The development of Rock Farm site has not even got outline planning
consent yet, and when plans are available we shall call a meeting of all
those interested to make their comments and suggestions known.
VILLAGE IMPROVEMENTS.
The clearance and fencing of the Wharf Site is due to start this week. The Jungle apparatus has been assembled by Denis Harris and will be erected in the recreation ground as soon as a J.C.B. is available and weather permits. New litter bins are on order and the lower bus shelter is to be repaired.
The Parish Council were very sad to hear from Mrs Hutton that Fred Brooks
At the end of another year in office we would like to thank you all for
your interest and support. It is always good to have an interested
public at our meetings and making their views known to us.

Oxford City Council has informed us that a local survey is being carried
out in connection with planning for the new Greater Leys development.
This will involve low-flying aircraft making photographs, and visits to
individual buildings and gardens by surveyors on the ground. The survey
company is called Cartographical Services (Southampton) Ltd., of
Landford Manor, Landford, Salisbury. All surveyors carry identity cards,
so if you are visited by someone asking to survey your property for this
purpose, please ask for identification.

Since Miss Burra wrote the Parish Council notes, we are extremely sad
to hear of the death of Mr Fred Brooks who passed away on Saturday
25th May at Marcham Road Hospital. He will be greatly missed.
I do not get down Church Road as often as I would like, so if there is

LEMON MOUSSE.
| Ingredients:- |
3 eggs. 1 dessertspoon powdered gelatine. 5-6oz caster sugar. 5 tablespoons lemon juice. 2 tablespoons hot water. finely grated rind of 1 lemon. |
| Method:- |
Separate the yolks from the whites of the eggs. Soak
the gelatine in the cold water. Beat egg yolks and sugar together
until light and creamy then add lemon juice and rind. Pour the hot water onto the gelatine, stir until dissolved and add to the egg mixture. Mix thoroughly. Now whip the egg whites until quite stiff. Fold into the lemon mixture - continue with a gentle up and down folding movement until you have incorporated all the white. Turn into a 6" (1½ pint) souffle dish and set in refrigerator. Decorate with ratafia biscuits and serve with cream. |
| Ingredients:- |
½ pint double cream. 3oz brown breadcrumbs. 1oz vanilla essence. 2 egg whites. 3oz dark brown sugar. |
| Method:- |
Blend cream and caster sugar to soft peak stage. Fold
in egg whites whisked stiff. Spoon into shallow dish, cover, and put
in freezer for about 3 hours. Mix breadcrumbs and brown sugar and spread on lightly oiled baking sheet (gas mark 6 or 400F) until sugar caramelises and crumbs brown - about 10 mins. Break up and add to freezer mixture, stirring together. |
The Mother and Toddler group meets every Thursday in the village hall
from 9.30 - 12.00, and is for all children under the age of 5. The
charge of 40p includes drinks and biscuits. There are lots of games
and toys to play with, and it is a good place for mums to make new
friends - phone OXFORD 779715 for more information.
Now that the warmer weather is upon us and our village being in close

own being drowned by carelessness.

Once again the telephone has been out of action. It appears that certain
people take great delight damaging the telephone, this time someone
was spotted doing the damage but is too frightened to report the person
for fear of reprisal.
Damage in a public telephone is a senseless and cruel thing to do and
can ultimately result in loss of a life.
