*****   PARISH COUNCIL NOTES   *****

The Annual General Meeting of the Parish Council was held on 20th May and five members of the public attended. Miss 8urra was re-elected Chairman and Mrs Agulnik Vice-chairman of the council.

The Council has received a letter from South Oxfordshire District Council, Planning Department enquiring whether we would be interested in acquiring the field behind Rock Farm and the houses East of Henley Road for recreational purposes.
In the Oxford Fringe Plan it was suggested that a small number of houses might eventually be built on what is now the farmyard site, but that the field should not be built up and should be available for recreation.
These plans are now being looked at more closely and the Parish Council agreed that we would be interested in owning those four acres. Because of rumours and fears which have been going round the village, I would like to make several points clear:-

1. The plans are still at a very early stage.
2. Our ownership of that field would make NO difference to our tenancy of the present recreation ground. We have signed an agreement with Magdalen College for twenty years on this land, and this cannot be changed without our consent.
3. The development of Rock Farm site has not even got outline planning consent yet, and when plans are available we shall call a meeting of all those interested to make their comments and suggestions known.

VILLAGE IMPROVEMENTS.

The clearance and fencing of the Wharf Site is due to start this week. The Jungle apparatus has been assembled by Denis Harris and will be erected in the recreation ground as soon as a J.C.B. is available and weather permits. New litter bins are on order and the lower bus shelter is to be repaired.

The Parish Council were very sad to hear from Mrs Hutton that Fred Brooks

who did such a good job keeping Sandford tidy last summer, is very ill in Marcham Road Hospital. We send him our good wishes and kind remembrances. We hope to find someone else to do the job, but will continue to remember his generosity and thoroughness with many thanks.

At the end of another year in office we would like to thank you all for your interest and support. It is always good to have an interested public at our meetings and making their views known to us.

ELIZABETH BURRA.

*****   WARNING-TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY   *****

Oxford City Council has informed us that a local survey is being carried out in connection with planning for the new Greater Leys development. This will involve low-flying aircraft making photographs, and visits to individual buildings and gardens by surveyors on the ground. The survey company is called Cartographical Services (Southampton) Ltd., of Landford Manor, Landford, Salisbury. All surveyors carry identity cards, so if you are visited by someone asking to survey your property for this purpose, please ask for identification.

There are lots of games and toys to play with, and it is a good place for mums to make new friends - phone OXFORD 779715 for more information.

Now that the warmer weather is upon us and our village being in close proximity to the river, we hope that all parents will remind their children about the hazards of the waterways around our village. PLEASE: ALL TAKE CARE AND PUT SAFETY FIRST AT ALL TIMES.

Once again the telephone has been out of action. It appears that certain people take great delight damaging the telephone, this time someone was spotted doing the damage but is too frightened to report the person for fear of reprisal.
Damage in a public telephone is a senseless and cruel thing to do and can ultimately result in loss of a life.
