*****   BRICK KILN LANE   *****

In the last couple of weeks, Thames Water Authority have started to make improvements to Brick Kiln Lane, and although there is still only bare soil at the moment great improvements can already be seen. Once they have finished the landscaping, it should be an extremely pleasant area of Sandford.

Please let us all be vigilant now about the rubbish dumpers. We cannot only blame the gypsies, no one has the authority to dump down the lane and anyway it is an offence to do so and can lead to a hefty fine.

*****   RIVER VIEW AND MILL SITE   *****

I try to make the Sandford Link as interesting as possible, but I know very little about what is happening at the River View end of the village. Every time I go down there it seems to be a live of activity. Therefore is it not possible for one of the residents to occasionally give me a Few notes on what is happening.

I have heard a number of suggestions what people would like do down that end of the village, but none from the actual residents themselves.

Can someone please let me have a few notes for insertion in next months Link.

Can the Youth Club Leaders, Keep Fit and any other club let me have times and meeting dates and who to contact ready for next month's issue. Please don't rely on word of mouth.

The Sandford Link gets delivered to the whole village and I hope that: it is read.

*****   PARISH COUNCIL NOTES   *****

After our August break, the September Parish Council meeting was long and busy. We were glad to have our District Councillor, Mrs. King with us, and also P.C. John Dell. Several parishioners also attended. We are always glad to have visitors showing interest in village affairs.

*****   SEWAGE SMELLS   *****

During the summer there were many complaints about smell from the Sewage Works. The Council complained to Thames water on your behalf and were given two reasons for the bad situation. One was the hot weather, and we were told that when it rained matters should improve. The other was that one or the digestion plants was out of commission, but that it should be working by October.
We were told this last year and that it would be working by December, 1983. We hope that this time it will actually happen. If you continue to be plagued by bad smells, please write to Thames Water yourselves and inform the parish Council.

*****   ITINERANTS   *****

They can no longer park on the verges of the approach road to the Sewage Works, and you will be glad to see that Thames Water is now installing permanent concrete rings in place of skips and heaps of rubbish. Then these are planted with trees, the appearance or the road should be greatly improved.
Oxon County highways Department have removed the itinerants from the junction of Henley Road and the Sandford Link road after their 28 days notice. We shall Invite Mr. Turrell or highways to our next meeting to discuss ways or preventing their return to this patch.

*****   PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT   *****

The slide is being repaired, and a ladder added, to make it easier to use. Mr. Dents Harris has agreed to organise the constructions of a large climbing frame for teenagers. The wood has been bought, and Dale Harris and Scott Beecham have helped store it In a safe place. Several people have offered to help with the building, and we hope that it will soon be under way as a group enterprise. He are very grateful to those who have offered to help, and we look forward to seeing the result of their efforts.

*****   NEW STREET LIGHTS   *****

One lamp has been requested outside the Village Hall, and another on the slip road halfway to the fly-over bridge, and another beyond it. The first two would cost about £369 each, and the third about £1000. shall decide at the next meeting when we have a written estimate, which of these lamps we can afford.

*****   PARISH COUNCIL LAND   *****

For the first time in its history the Parish Council owns part of Sandford, given to us by Smurfitt, the last owners of the Mill. We now own the Wharf Site, which has long been derelict and an eyesore. have not yet decided how best it ran be used for the good of the parish. Please let any Parish Councillor know any ideas or suggestions you have for it. So far we have considered making a car park, or providing a grassy area where people can sit by the river.
The second site we own is across the road from the Wharf Site, below River View. At present the land is being used to deposit rubble from River View building works, and top soil from the Mill Site. It will eventually be levelled and grassed. The inhabitants of River view would like to use some of it as a recreation area. It has been suggested that we could build bungalows for old people there. We are Investigating this posibi1ity, but it is unlikely to be permitted or practicable.

ELIZABETH BURRA.

*****   EVENTS   *****

It would have been nice to have had more villagers watching the hard shoulder team who were so very good. Malcolm Jackson kindly gave his services free in the evening playing guitar and singing.

The Children enjoyed the pony-rides which raised £10. Well done to Sue. Next time lets make it more of a success with all the village supporting the Fund Raising and Management Committee.

We would like any suggestion for the villagers to get together and make more use of our nice village hall.

Chairman Hazel Hutton.
