SANDFORD LINK

Issue No. 19.June 1983.

You may find this months Sandford Link very sparse in news and information. The reason for this being that I took over the editorship at a late stage in the month.

My hopes for the Sandford Link during the coming months will be to inform you of all activities taking place in the village, i.e. Youth Club, Toddlers Group, Keep Fit, Bingo etc. Also monthly notes on Parish Council meetings, plus a few notes: from PC Dell the Community Police Officer; and possibly notes from Councillor Nikki King, on points of local interest raised at District Council level.

My wishes are to have the children more involved with the Sandford Link, therefore, I will be asking the children to send along any of their jokes or poems and I will pay £1 for the best one printed in the months issue.

Maybe some of you ladies in the village would like to send along a simple recipe that we can print each month.

Finally, I have decided that no letters of a political nature will be printed in the Sandford Link or political comments made. However, controversial points of view will be printed, but these will be strictly of a village nature.

Please let me have all your letters by the 20th of each month. My home address and telephone number will be on the back page of the Sandford Link.

If you would like any news items collected from your house, please phone me, I am only too willing to collect them.

*****   COOKERY CORNER   *****

Come on you ladies with all the cooking you do, you should be able to send me some very easy recipes. To start you off I am putting one of my favourite party dips for you to try.

SHRIMP DIP

Ingredients:
6 oz Tin of Shrimps
3 Tablespoons of Mayonnaise
2 oz Cheddar Cheese - Cubed
Salt and Pepper
1 Teaspoon Worcester Sauce

        Method:
Reserve a few Shrimps.
Put all ingredients in a blender for one minute.
Pour into bowl and decorate with Shrimps.

*****   ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH NOTES   *****

The annual Spring Bazaar, which took place just before Easter, raised a total of £162.58. This was slightly down on the 1982 total of £175.00, but in view of the comparatively poor attendance, it shows that those who did come and support us gave very generously. All societies and organisations have to have money to keep going and, unfortunately, the church is no exception. In these days, if a Church cannot pay its way, it is in danger of being made redundant and close, and if that happened here all Baptisms, Weddings etc. would have to take place at Littlemore or further afield.

There are two further opportunities for Sandford people to support their Church during the Summer months, the first is the Annual Fete, which has been fixed for Saturday 25th June. Weather permitting, this will be in both the Village Hall and the Recreation ground and will include the usual stalls and sideshows. The second is the Flower Festival in the Church on the same day as the Summer Fayre, namely, Saturday 13th August - so you will all please make a note of these two dates and give us all the help you can. At last year's Flower Festival the Church was most beautifully decorated and everything was greatly admired by our many visitors on that occasion. It is well worth a visit.
