SANDFORD FORGET-ME-NOTS
About 35 members enjoyed the 2nd annual Xmas luncheon that was held in the New Village Hall. A lot of work and money must go into providing this lunch each year, through the generosity of its chairman Mrs M. Harris a formal vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Bennet.
The following week they were provided with a lunch followed by an entertainment by the staff and pupils of Peers School Littlemore for a minimum charge, we wish to convey our appreciation for an enjoyable afternoon out, to the Staff and pupils.

NEW YEAR LETTER
May I take this opportunity of thanking those many people in Sandford who have done so much work for us all in 1982, members of the - Parish Council and our Clerk, those who look after the Village Hall, and the Management Committee and fund raisers, all those who run village clubs, those who produce and distribute the Sandford Link, and the many others who help in different ways.
We all benefit it from their work and time SO generously given.
Best wishes to everyone for 1983.
Elizabeth Burra,
Chairman of the Parish Council.

PARISH COUNCIL

At the November meeting of the Parish Council, when P.C. Dell attended and made some useful suggestions, the following matters were discussed:-

1. Through a helpful Surveyor, the Parish Council have negotiated with Magdalen College for the grant to the Parish Council of a Lease of the Rec. ground for 20 years.

2. It was decided that for the present time the fence between the Hall and the Rec. should not be put up, but that the gate from the Rec, into Church Rd. should be locked, and the gate to the Village Hall itself should be replaced, and this might discourage the area round the Village Hall being used as a thoroughfare.

3. Gifts of trees and shrubs for around the Hall will be appreciated especially if the giver plants the plant themselves.

4. Mrs N. King the District Councillor attended the December meeting of the Parish Council. This meeting discussed at length the problem about the rubbish dumping round the 10 Acre caravan site and that the dumping along the bridle Way is becoming a great problem. There is new Warden on the site, but this does not seem to have prevented the rubbish dumping and unlawful parking of caravans outside the site. South Oxfordshire Dist. Council have been informed of the problem and say that they are planning to renew the fence as necessary. They are asking Magdalen College to remove the rubbish from the Bridle way.

It was decided that if there could be a meeting between S.O.D.C, Magdalen College, Thames Water Authority and the Parish Council it may be possible to resolve the present problem and come to some constructive decision about preventing rubbish. The date of such a meeting is not yet known. There is also a discussion about the new planning application by the Co-op for a superstore near Kiln Park Caravan site. The members of the Parish Council were not in agreement as to whether to approve the application or not.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on 10th. January 1983.

PARISH COUNCIL

A planning application has been submitted to the Parish Council for a superstore on behalf of Hartwells in Henley Rd. opposite the old Council Houses. Floor space of 94,900 sq.ft. Including food hall, garden centre, D.I.Y. and car park for 450 cars. This site has been the subject of many planning applications, as residential units, and a caravan site, all have been turned down.

VILLAGE HALL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE?

As we look forward to the New year I am pleased to announce that the Christmas bazaar made a net £292-00 thanks to the tremendous efforts of all involved and those who attended. The Grand Draw was a great success, the Xmas hamper being won by Mr. R. Norton. All prizes have been delivered, and a full list of other prizes won can be obtained from myself.
It is pleasing to look back over 1982, I see that the Village Hall was used a great many occasions by local residents and others. There is no doubt that it has turned out to be an amenity that the village needed, and a great asset. It is perhaps appropriate to say that this success can only be maintained and achieved with the consent and efforts of yourselves. As a Committee we hope the halls condition and the way its run and maintained is a good advert for the village.
Unfortunately there have been a few incidents of senseless vandalism and annoyance to users of the hall. On behalf of the Committee I would ask everyone to keep an eye on this village asset, and in particular insist that children play in the recreation ground, and not around the hall as this causes nuisance to those inside the hall.
On behalf of the Committee I wish everyone a prosperous and HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Michael Slay, Chairman.

SANDFORD YOUTH CLUB
There will be a A.G.M. on Thursday 13th. Jan. at 7-30.
If the youth Club is to continue it is essential that anyone interested should attend. We also need more adult involvement to enable us to continue this activity for the Village children, this means parent as well. This does not mean committing yourself every week for both sessions, any help, even an hour a month would be appreciated. If the senior Youth Club wish to start again they must attend the A.G.M. to show their support for this. One of the matters that will be raised is the moving of Youth Club night from Thurs. to the Wed. of each week.
In the past this youth Club has been very successful, and to ensure it continues in this manner, your attendance is essential at this forthcoming A.G.M.
D. Slay, Sec.

FAIR COMMENT
All Sandford residents will know by now that The Paper Mill is closing down this month, as reported in the Oxford Mail on the 15th Dec. 82, and the last paragraph of that report sums it up completely. Caused by the CUTS IN EDUCATION, from nursery schools to the Universities. Their main customers for the paper made in Sandford were the Education Committees of the country, and we all know who is responsible for the cuts, which has nothing what-ever to do with the world recession.
It is hoped that peoples memories do not fail when the time comes, (perhaps this year), and the quotation for this month is dedicated to this matter.

Also reported in that issue of the Oxford Mail, (right underneath Mr. John Leaches photograph) is the fact that S.O.D.C. are transferring Over HALF A MILLION POUNDS raised from INCREASED COUNCIL HOUSE RENTS and the sale of Council houses to the general rates fund for 1983-4 which will keep the rates down for all of us. THANK YOU COUNCIL HOUSE TENANTS.
