SOUTH OXFORDSHIRE DIST. COUNCIL.
A 1½ page report from Dist. Councillor Mrs. Nicola King has been received for the half year in office, and covers the 6 parishes she represents.
Opening remarks and that concerning Sandford are as follows:-

District Council by Nikki King.
"South Oxfordshire Dist. Council is the largest Dist. Council in England with 59 members, and covering a great variety of constituent areas, from Urban, suburban, to truly rural. During my first 6 months I have been involved in many issues concerned with environmental and community problems".

POLLUTION. Many people from Sandford telephoned about the foul smell from the sewage works. It was quite appalling and attracted swarms of flies. I asked the Environmental Health officer to arrange a public meeting with the Thames Water Authority. The meeting was held on 7th. July, and the Water Authority explained that the cause of the "stink" was the failure of the 'Digestion' pump. It is now being completely overhauled, and normal working is expected to resume in November.

WATER was also the cause of many complaints from local people including kidney patients, who felt that something was wrong with our water. On checking, I discovered that the Water Authority were carrying out tests to correct algae levels at the reservoir. They readily agreed to complete these operations at speed, and normal water supplies were soon resumed.

Finally, it is a great shame that the County Council are cutting back on the RURAL HOME ECONOMICS FACILITY for the W.I. As this is a County Council matter I have made known our views to Mr. Charles Farrell, but know that little can be done at this late stage. I know it has only been 6 months, but I find District Council work very involving and interesting, so if any individual or group feel I can help, YOU KNOW WHERE TO FIND ME.

FAIR COMMENT.
It is a GREAT shame that the County Council are cutting back on the RURAL HOME ECONOMICS FACILITY FOR THE W.I.
It is also a GREAT shame that Council house rents have been increased between £5-50 to £6-00. during the last 2 years, by the South Oxfordshire Dist. Council, it is hoped that this penalty will not be imposed again in the coming financial year 1983/84.

This is only the second occasion that anything concerning Sandford has been put into print by a representative of the Dist. Council for this village.
The first occasion was during the 1956/9 period of office, copies of which are still available for reference if required.

It is hoped that we will continue to be kept informed in the future. If you DONT know where to find her, the address is "The Vineyard" High St., Clifton Hampden Phone No. 7762.

SANDFORD KEEP FIT CLUB.
Due to problems with the floor of the village hall, there have been no keep fit classes for the last three weeks, the next term will therefore now start on Tuesday 2nd. Nov. If you wish to join, please come on that night, or for further details contact Sue Norton on Ox. 770417, or Gwen Absolom on Ox.777213.

PANTOMIME TIME AGAIN.
Having been entertained by the young people of the village for the past four years - I think it is time the adults took a turn. Anyone interested in any way, i.e. performing, making scenery, lighting, publicity etc. Please get in touch with Gwen Absolom, on Ox. 777213.

CONVERSATION PIECE (FACT).
Local teenager, to local resident,
has the Village Hall been Re-vandalised,?
Resident, what do you mean Re-vandalised,?
Teenager, well - properly broken up.
Resident, No - not properly broken up.
(end of conversation)
Anyone associated with these silly ideas can forget them, and feel sure local ratepayers will want to prevent any serious damage to Sandford Village Hall, after all £72,000 is a lot of money for VANDALS TO HAVE A GIGGLE OVER. For the record the date is 1st. Oct. 1982.

Items for NOV. issue to be received by THURS. 21st. October. Phone 779693.
