Chairman's report 2006-2007
Traffic
The traffic impact on Sandford has not reduced and if anything is getting worse. The County
Highways Authorities have inched us closer to measures to reduce the impact of traffic on the
village and I hope that before the end of the summer measures will be in place to help with this.
John Howells is thanked for tirelessly pressing the right buttons to get this matter moving.
Hall the village hall have made an excellent effort in re-decorating the village hall and things are
running smoothly; no reports of noise at all this year.
Police liaison Regrettably Police activity within the village remains low; and of late vandalism
appears to be increasing - the youth shelter and stile near the recreation ground in Church Road
have both been targeted. We rarely see an officer in the village and have not seen one at our
Council meetings all year, indeed I no longer know who our beat officer is or which station serves
us; but unless wanton damage stops we will need to address this matter.
Recreation/play areas We are currently awaiting completion of a hand over of the play
equipment in Jananway - which if we did not adopt would have been removed by the developers!
It is good to see the village youth club re-start and I am pleased the Council felt able to support this
venture and wish to thank the leaders for taking this on.
Appraisal The village appraisal has been considered on a number of concisions and hopefully the
completion of traffic calming will address the major concern of our parishioners.
Greenbelt The debate about house building South of Grenoble road has moved to an examination
in public and we await the outcome.
Mobile Home site the residents of the site seem at long last to have a more optimistic view of
their tenancy with their landlord.
Appreciation is extended to the council for its hard work over the past year and thanks to the
villagers that attend meetings and help represent views. A special thanks to Mike Inston and Mike
Norton who after many years of service to the village have not sought re-election.
Orchard House The house closed this year and is currently boarded up - and has been subjected
to a large degree of vandalism - we await with interest what might happen on this site.
'Lock path' The hand rail and path over the river through the King's Arms will need to be sorted
out this year
