1. PROMOTE EXISTING ACTIVITIES
"To promote the activities that are already available locally to young people,
in a dedicated section of the village directory."
A copy of the Village Directory appeared in The Link in Summer 2005
and an updated version in Winter 2006 -
a new version is currently being prepared.
The very popular Toddler Group continues to meet regularly on Monday mornings in term time,
and usually continue during the holidays.
(see Winter 2008).
After closing for a while, the new Youth Club restarted
(see Winter 2006)
and now meets on Tuesdays after school during term time.
The third Children's Christmas Party was held in December
(see Winter 2008),
thanks to James, Michelle and the many helpers.
Some of the reports were recorded over the last two years:
The children's party at Christmas had been a great success, it was hoped that
more children from the village would attend next year when it would be a finale for the youth club
autumn term. The re-opening of the youth club on Tuesday evenings was welcomed.
(see Parish Council Jan 2007)
Michelle and Cathy were congratulated on the new youth club which was
proving a great success and popular with 15 village children so far.
(see Parish Council Mar 2007)
It was unanimously agreed to make a grant to the youth club to buy a new air
hockey table and have a table tennis top made.
(see Parish Council Apr 2007)
An autumn term report in The Link issue 108 Winter 2007
M Robson reported that the children's Christmas party had been a great success
with 52 children attending and 31 of those from Sandford.
(see Parish Council Jan 2008)
Youth Club article in The Link issue 109 Spring 2008
The Youth Club was holding a 'litter blitz' on Tuesday 8th July between
4.00pm and 6.00pm to be followed by a pizza party. They were congratulated on their initiative.
(see Parish Council July 2008)
The Summer Term, Youth Club article in The Link issue 111 Autumn 2008
The youth club has planted some daffodil bulbs near existing planters and were congratulated and thanked.
(see Parish Council Oct 2008)
Youth Club report in The Link issue 112 Winter 2008
It was agreed to spend £500 on equipment for the youth club.
(see Parish Council Dec 2008)
2. NEW VOLUNTEERS
"Advertise in the link for volunteer organisers of activity sessions in
subjects shown in the appraisal to be of interest to young people."
The Link regularly carries reports and reminders of activities run by the Toddlers Group and the Youth Club.
A "Village Fun Day" was held in the Summer 2006
and subsequently reported in The Link Autumn 2006.
M Robson said that all who had attended had enjoyed the Village Fun Day and it was intended to
repeat it next year.
(see Parish Council Sept 2006)
and again the following year a "Sandford Fun in the Park" summer event for children
(see Summer 2007) was held, but this proved less successful,
however the new Christmas Party has now become an annual event.
3. SEEK GRANT SUPPORT
"The Parish Council to seek grant support for these initiatives."
The Parish Council are always pleased to consider any requests of support for village activities,
especially those involving young people, many of which are recorded on this page.
4. PLAY EQUIPMENT
"The Parish Council's play equipment budget for this year
to be targeted upon facilities for the 7 - 12 year age group."
A budget for new play equipment has already been set aside by the Parish Council.
Currently Michelle is examining a safety inspection report on the existing play equipment,
and the council will review the findings, and consider new equipment accordingly.
Playgrounds - M Robson had produced an excellent report and action plan based on the
last RoSPA inspection report. Most of the items could be covered by non specialist
labour so it was agreed that clerk would ask G Surman to attend to the items in priority
order.
There was also a 'wish list' of new playground equipment tabled following
discussions with the toddler and youth groups. M Robson would try to get some of this
priced by next meeting. She was congratulated on the thoroughness of her report.
(see Feb 2005)
As recorded in the Parish Council minutes for May 2005
the Youth Club were raising funds to help contribute for new play equipment.
A sum of £100 was received with thanks by the Parish Council in
September
which will be added to the playground equipment budget.
The Parish Council at the January 2006 meeting
agreed to purchase three new climbing frames.
These was completed in March 2006 - pictured below:

Playgrounds - Janaway, following letter received from Persimmon who had taken over
Westbury Homes and who declined to maintain the playground, it was agreed that the parish
council would adopt the area and maintain it in future.
(see Sept 2006)
Playground inspection report: M Robson and K Welch were congratulated on the
work they had undertaken. A questionnaire had been delivered to 200 houses in the Heyford
Hill area between 11th and 12th of November and 17 had been returned by 1st December.
From the survey it became apparent that residents liked the mini football goals in Fox
Furlong and favoured the improvement of the play equipment area. It was agreed to
demolish existing equipment and replace with new items suitable for children from the ages
of 3 - 12. A sum would be budgeted and it was hoped to be able to spend some of it before
the end of the financial year next March.
(see Dec 2007)
Fox Furlong: M Robson had obtained suggestions for various items of play equipment from
2 companies out of the 4 she had contacted. The cost of works was considerably increased
by the necessity to remove and take away existing equipment and supply and lay new safety
surface to existing concrete. It was agreed that Miracle Design would be asked to quote for a
slide and swings and grass tile safer surfacing. This would involve breaking up and taking
away the concrete undersurface additionally. It may be possible to get another agency to do
that part of the work. It should in any case be done soon.
(see Apr 2008)
Fox Furlong play area; M Robson brought along some quotes she had received. The two most
favourable were from Safe and Sound and Miracle Design. It was agreed to accept that from Miracle
Design in the sum of £10,899 which included removing and taking away existing condemned
equipment and surfacing and replacing with new poured surfacing and a new piece of multi purpose
equipment which could be extended in future.
(see May 2008)
This is now complete - pictured below:
