PARISH PLAN PROGRESS REPORTS

VILLAGE TRAFFIC

This section of the progress report covers
the problems of village traffic.

Traffic

Traffic problems in the village were a big concern to many who filled in our questionnaire. As most of us find that their cars are very convent, the local situation will continue to get worse. Unfortunately it appears that speed cameras can not be installed unless there has been a history of fatalities on the road, however, funds allowing other measures can be taken to try and improve the current situation.

"The Parish Council continue its endeavours to get the County Council, to obtain or allocate funds, to deliver the following:"
a)  Football traffic arriving northbound on the A4074 directed to the Sainsbury's roundabout and then south rather than, as now, via the bottom end of Henley Road and into Brick Kiln Lane. 30 mph
b)  Mini roundabouts at Heyford Hill Lane, Church Road & Brick Kiln Lane.
c)  Adjustments to alignment of Church Road / Henley Road junction.
d)  Lower Henley Road (from Church Road to A4074) narrowed by parking bays.
e)  Re-introduction of vehicle weight limit signs along Grenoble Road.
f)  Deeper bus bays at Brick Kiln Lane and Grenoble Road roundabout.
g)  Improved lighting to junctions, including beneath underpass bridge [A4074].
h)  New tarmac on Henley Road / Sandford Road / Church Road.
i)  Raised pedestrian crossings near to bus stops.
j)  Alternating priorities between Orchard House and Four Pillars Hotel.
k)  30 mph signs painted onto road surface.
l)  Church Road pavement re-laid.
m)  Mirror at the junction of Broadhurst Gardens and Heyford Hill Lane.

Along with the Parish Council the Appraisal Group are pressing Oxfordshire County Council for improvements. A copy of the above section of the Parish Plan has been passed on to Mr Dix, (the County Council's head of Transport) who's department covers this area, for a formal response.

A copy of the last two traffic surveys taken in the village in August 2002 and November 2002 has been made available to us. This contains eight pages of tables and lots and lots of numbers from the two different survey points on the Henley Road recorded over seven days. Though taken a while ago the data gathered gives an interesting reference, some graphs generated from the data tables are available on the traffic stats page.

Our County Councillor, John Howell who has been actively supporting the village over our campaign on traffic issues, reported to the Parish Council in June that some funding had become available to finance some traffic management in the village.

Several villagers attended the July Parish Council meeting to discuss various traffic problems in the village.

Mr Dix attended the August Parish Council meeting to comment on possible traffic measures in the village.

John Howell informed the November Parish Council Meeting that further funds had been found for traffic management in the village.
Quite what this could actually pay for remains to be seen.

In April it was reported that the new traffic engineer, Peter Ronald, was now actively looking after traffic calming for the village, and work was hoped to start in the near future.

In June it was reported that the new 're-alignment' of the Church Road junction would be starting soon.

Peter Ronald (OCC highways engineer) attended the November meeting to discus traffic calming measures.

Details of the December 2006 traffic survey became available.
