Thames Valley Police - Crime Reduction

Government web site for Crime Reduction.

1. INCREASED VISIBILITY
spot    "To hold an early meeting with a Senior Officer of Thames Valley Police, to raise village concerns and obtain an increased level and visibility of policing arrangements."

The current development for Neighbourhood Policing has now been rolled out in our area, and the village comes under the Wheatley neighbourhood area.
Associated with this is the new NAG (Neighbourhood Action Group) which seek to deal with key issues identified by public consultation.
As this scheme develops, it will hopefully give the village more direct contact with our local police, and the ability to raise issues with designated officers for our area. The police have a standing invitation to attend Parish Council meetings.

2. CRIME PREVENTION
spot    "To make available additional crime prevention advice and support to village households."

The beat officer has attended the village fete in 2005, where the Appraisal Marquee had a range of crime prevention literature available. Also our then beat officer, PC Price attended both Neighbourhood Watch meetings where he answered general questions on police matters and on crime reduction.
More recently, our own local area PCSO (Police Community Support Officer) Ken Cooney holds regular local area Police "surgeries" at the village hall two or three times a year.

Generally it seems we are in a comparative low crime area, because the number of crime reports from our village are relatively quite small. Generally the perceived level of crime is much lower that what the actual recorded figures suggest,
Thus we are encouraged to report all incidents however small, even if the Police can do nothing about it at the time, this ensure the police have a true picture of crime levels in the village and ensures the appropriate level of response.

The Parish Council will keep our beat officer informed, and ensure he is aware of the date of the annual Fete, when hopefully, a police representative will be able to attend.
