PARISH PLAN PROGRESS REPORTS

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

This section of the progress report covers:
spot
1   Develop and expand watches
2   Further coverage of the village

Neighbourhood Watch

In our survey, only 27% of people were currently covered by a neighbourhood watch scheme, though some comments reported little activity, and only 41% indicated their scheme appeared effective. Encouragingly 74% indicated they would like a scheme in their area, and 26% showed they were willing to help start such a scheme.

With a large amount of interest, and quite a few apparently keen to become involved, it was evident that the neighbourhood watch scheme should be extended in the village. Thus in order to rejuvenate and promote the existing schemes and help set up new watches the area administrator for local neighbourhood watches was contacted for advice on how to take this further.

1. DEVELOP NEW WATCHES
Neighbourhood Watch spot    "By mid 2005, to have established watches in parts of Henley Road and the Heyford Hill Estate."

An early initiative taken by the Appraisal Group, was to organise a meeting in the village hall on 29 Nov 2005, with the Neighbourhood Watch Area Administrator, Carol Rudd.
A leaflet advertising an open meeting about the neighbourhood watch scheme, was delivered to the whole village, encouraging those interested to come along and find out more.

An article for the winter issue of the village magazine also gave a report on the meeting, and a second article appeared in the spring issue.

Local information on neighbourhood watches can be found in the main NHW page. A second follow-up meeting was held on 28 February.
At the Parish Council meeting in March, it was resolved to fund the cost of 10 new NHW signs, in support of the developing new schemes.

2. FURTHER VILLAGE COVERAGE
spot    "By the end of 2006, to have established a comprehensive framework of schemes throughout the village, including the park homes."

Initial developments are still underway.
