From the village hall to local buses, local information covers a very wide and useful aspect of our daily life. Whilest perhaps too much can be confusing, too little information can put us at a disadvantage to those in the know.
The Internet is a useful means of up to date communication and its use is increasing daily, but the value of a printed information is just as important, especially to those without computers.

Village Directory 1. VILLAGE DIRECTORY
spot    "An annual directory of village services to be issued, by March 2005, as an extra issue of The Link with extra copies that can be given to all new arrivals, as a 'welcome to the village' pack."

In October the Parish Council have agreed to assist with funding.
Request in the December issue of The Link for local activities and services wishing to be included.

A copy of the Village Directory was included, as a center page pull-out, in the Summer 2005 issue of The Link.

A second updated copy, of the new Village Directory was included, as a center page pull-out, in the Winter 2006 issue of The Link.

Sandford on Thames Village Magazine on line 2. WEB SITE
spot    "Initiate a project, by June 2005, using any available grants, to extend www.sandfordonthames.co.uk into an information 'portal'."

Currently consideration of an explanation of useful information on the website, along with an up to date version of the Village Directory, and to include amongst others:
    Local activities, groups and services.
    Expansion of Mobile library page.
    Further Village Hall info.
    Links to employment.
    The Stadium & Ozone.
    Green Boxes and recycling.
    NHW & Crime reduction.
    A new Youth info section.
    Local and Tesco Bus services.
So watch out for further developments over the coming months!

Consulations with Dan Tarzey on best approach and estimate of professional development costs.
Already raised as a possible item for the Parish Council Budget.
Checking with the Oxfordshire Rural Community Council and their "Wired Villages" handbook for further information.
Also for "Communities in Touch Website Funding" from the County Council, though sadly this grant seems to have been discontinued.

mobile library 3. MOBILE LIBRARY
spot    "Promote the use of the library service in all information media.
Meet with Oxfordshire County Council to obtain more visits by the service, especially in the late afternoon."

Plans to include details of the mobile library services in the "Village Directory" and the web site to encourage its use.
To check with the library service when the next timetable review us due and ensure its continual use.

The current page for the mobile library.

Consultation references:
Though many sections of the Parish Plan have a varying degree of 'increased awareness' in there resulting actions, a few questions in the survey can be grouped in this section:

F24Publicity about council decisions and activities is effective.
F25Village services over the internet would be very useful.
F26The Link, Village Noticeboards and Sandford Web Pages are important services.
F29The mobile library is an important part of village life.
F30We know the facilities the Four Pillars Hotel offers to village residents.
Feedback from the Draft Action Plan.
