1. ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP
spot    "A village 'environmental group' to be created, under a volunteer leader, with support (including finance) from the Parish Council."

A request has been included in the spring issue of The Link, asking for support for the scheme, but sadly no response was forthcoming.
However the spirit of the idea is maintained by a group of members within the Parish Council.

2. GREEN SPACES
spot    "That, subject to the acceptability of the likely costs by the Parish Council, more is made of the village and its green spaces, by:
a) flower and shrub beds created at a variety of key points throughout the village, as part of the traffic management proposals.
c) a programme of trimming and edging that maximises the usability of village pavements and paths.
d) other areas being left to naturalise or being maintained as wild gardens."

- - NOTES - -

The current areas of 'grass cutting' controlled by the Parish Council have been reviewed in October 2004.
The tenders for 2005 have now been considered, and a new contractor has been accepted by the Parish Council in February 2005.
After a very reasonable season, this contract was renewed in December 2005.
The Parish Council donated funds in 2006 to help maintain and improve the gardens at Sandford Lock.
Trees in Yeftly Drive were attended to in September.
In November 2007 the grass cutting contractor was asked to tidy up the verges and brambles overflowing path at Brick Kiln Lane.
The grass cutting schedule was reviewed in December.
A review of the overgrown grass bank in Church Road, and two new planters in the village was discussed in April 2008.

Overgrown brambles on Brick Kiln Lane and opposite The Fox would be cut back in November.

3. LITTER BLITZ
litter spot    "The village to have an annual 'litter blitz' to share out the work followed by a social event such as a BBQ, funded by the Parish Council."

Vandalism and burning of litter bins was recorded in May 2007, however the replacement of bins is under the controll of SODC. The size, type and position of litter bins can only be requested by the Parish Council, the final decision being taken by SODC, who understandably have a policy of not replacing bins that are repeatedly set of fire.

It was noted that some were replaced in February 2008 and another request was made in June.

4. GLASS RECYCLING
spot    "A suitable location for a glass recycling bank to be found, that does not cause traffic or litter problems, which a contractor empties on a regular basis."

Currently the nearest glass recycle bin in the corner of Sainsburys car park, also there is one at the Redbridge recycling centre.

The District Council are currently considering underground bottle banks, as reported to the Parish Council in February 2005, further information on quite what these are is awaited with interest.
However it now seems that due to the cost only a few will be installed, and these have already been allocated to other major areas in the district.

After much discussion it now seems that SODC will include glass in the new recycling contract with new wheelie bins due in 2009.

5. GREEN BOXES
green box spot    "Current recycling options to be regularly re-iterated in The Link."

The Green Box recycling scheme has been reported in the village magazine.

The local recycling centre at Redbridge.

A large pile Green Boxes was made available at the Fete by the Appraisal Group, along with recycling information and leaflets. Supply of green boxes was soon exhausted, and several people left their names for a subsequent free delivery.
It is intended to repeat this again at next years Fete.

A note on recycling containers was included in the spring issue of The Link, also a contact details appeared in the Winter 2006 local directory.

Note: the green box system is due to be phased out and replaced by new wheelie bins, probably in 2009.
